Title: Diversity and inclusion in open source software communities

Abstract: Software one can rely upon requires developers' communities one can rely upon, i.e., healthy and sustainable communities. A crucial aspect of health and sustainability of communities is diversity and inclusion. In this talk we focus on diversity and inclusion in open source software communities and discuss such topics as how can community diversity be measured, what kinds of differences can be observed in behaviour of contributors of different genders on popular collaborative platforms, what measures are often being taken to foster diversity and what risks can be associated with some of these measures.

Short bio: Alexander Serebrenik is associate professor of Software Evolution at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research interests include both social and technical aspects of software evolution and maintenance. He authored over 170 papers appeared in international journals, conferences, and workshops, and has recently received a distinguished paper award at ICSE 2017. He's a senior member of IEEE, steering committee chair of ICSME and steering committee member of SCAM. He is also a coordinating editor of Empirical Software Engineering and editorial board member of Journal of Systems and Software and Science of Computer Programming.
